Balletcore: Your Guide to Spring’s Hottest New Trend

Balletcore: Your Guide to Spring’s Hottest New Trend

Remember that one day out of the whole week when your mom had to drop you off to class while dressed in a tutu and leotard? The uniform of your after school ballet class is now the hottest trend of Spring/Summer 2024.

Pale pastels, winter whites, cozy cardigans, romantic black and swaths of bows/rosettes are now in vogue. If there is one thing to know about the balletcore trend, it’s all about the details from the silhouette to the embellishments that adorn the torso. Even though this seems like a recent trend, a lot of the essentials are borrowed from Y2K and a bit of the ‘10s.

If this a trend you want to try, here are some key items to add to your cart:

1. Andres Sarda Cardigan

SHOP

This mohair cardigan features swaths of lace that adorn the neck to the torso with ties that can permit you to wear it as a jacket or a top. We have one in black and white! Also, boleros were popular during the mid-2000s. If you want to dabble into the Y2K look and balletcore, you got the best of both worlds.

2. Bubble Hem

SHOP

Another Y2K trend that also borrows ballet elements, the bubble hem is flirty and playful. This vintage BCBG by Max Azria dress from the mid-2000s features a structured bodice and a sash that’s peak ballet. Style it with ballet flats for the full balletcore look.

3. Drop Waist Skirts

SHOP

Another hot trend on the rise, drop waist was a popular silhouette of the 1920s. Even though the ‘20s revival was a micro trend in the late 2000s thanks to the Paul Poiret exhibit at the Met, it’s making a big return back to the streets. Even though ours is from 2013, the Chloe Sevigny x Opening Ceremony drop waist miniskirt feels so refreshingly relevant with its smocked waistband and ultra high waistline.

Otherwise, we got a Frankie’s Bikinis white lace dress that marries an empire bust and a drop waist!

4. Ballet Flats

SHOP

We cannot get enough of ballet flats. Since 2022, ballet flats have been picking up. Peep toe or pointed toe, ballet flats never feel old as something you can wear everyday or at a party. We even have a few by Louboutin and Manolo Blahnik

5. Bows

SHOP

We are a huge sucker for bows. Delicate, yet chic, bows are about to emerge as one of the hottest accessory makers. The Rodarte x Target dress is living proof that you can live out your inner child! (FYI, this is 2010’s most coveted dress!)

RENT

You can also try out our Sandy Liang dress, which has a bow-style rosette at the bust! Since this is a runway piece (from their Fall/Winter 2023 show), it has the same effect in real life with its high fashion elegance, flirty rosette bow and seductive cutouts.
