The glory years of Y2K and Emanuel Ungaro do not belong in the same sentence, but the French brand did a lot to define a decade. Although it was super popular in the ‘80s for its loud prints and power suits, the 2000s was where Emanuel Ungaro was catapulted into another stratosphere thanks to Lindsay Lohan’s brief tenure as a creative director. (Remember the heart print tops and pasties?)
The Lindsay years aside, Emanuel Ungaro had a chokehold in 2001. Straight from Paris, we have the burnout velvet printed top from the SS 2001 collection as modeled by Devon Aoki, who wore it on the runway.
As much as we love runway creations, not many are produced in real life. Only celebrities like Britney Spears and Aoki were able to get these pieces off of the brand straight from the runway.

In fact, a lot of variations of the same print such as this top below are made for retail only. Nevertheless, it’s a great statement piece to add to your personal designer vintage archive!
