What to Where: Art Week

What to Where: Art Week

The Glastonbury of art in Asia, Art Week is Singapore’s version of Hong Kong’s Art Basel. Running between the 19th to the 28th of January, Art Week is a weeklong festival where galleries and museums are hosting new exhibitions. Indoor or outdoors, art events are not to be missed out on. However, the logistics to get to one event to the other can be hectic since so many events happen back to back.

While sacrificing style over comfort happens on a daily basis, the key to mastering your OOTDs for Art Week is all about finding the right pieces that bridge day to night dressing.

Where: Vernissage at Marina Bay Sands

The premier art event that kicks off Art Week, this is where all the top tier art galleries around the world gather. Since this is calling for elevating basics, you can try renting out our Herve Leger dress.

RENT

You can always trust a little white dress to make a statement with its stark hue and delicate chain details. Style it with your trusty strappy heels and a small bag - if you are going to opening night.

However, if you are going there in the daytime, we suggest a Réalisation Par dress.

RENT

The burnout velvet fabric is elevated enough to make it be worn in the daytime with a straw bag and heels a la Jane Birkin, but appropriate enough to wear it outside when you are walking around in humid weather.

If you are not feeling a dress, may we suggest these archival runway Proenza jeans? Although skinny jeans have yet to reclaim its crown, these Pollock-like jeans feature painterly strokes that can be elevated with a plain black top and ankle boots.

Where: Gillman Barracks

As the art hub of Singapore, this hilly locale is where galleries dot along the line. Since it’s super humid and really hot over there, it is always best to visit in the afternoon. But the one standout event to not miss is Art After Dark, a rave-style event where you can dance the night away.

We highly recommend our mesh Sweet Pea top, which marries the playfulness and retro vibe of Gillman. It will be styled with your favorite jeans and sneakers for extra comfort as you walk up and down the hill!

If you are looking for something that can last throughout the day, we highly recommend this black asymmetrical Pearly Wong dress.

Where: Auctions

Auction season is about to kick off and what else do you need besides elevated pieces to match the ambience? Since it’s more conservative compared to Gillman and Vernissage, this is where you need to look your best!

If you want to match the vibe of the artwork, we highly suggest an archival Marni top. Even though the matching miniskirt sold out, we highly recommend styling it with a pair of simple black bottoms (like a skinny jean, tailored trouser or pencil skirt).

Another top option is the Preen Amy Winehouse dress, which is sexy, yet simple. Though it’s quite a statement piece with the low neckline and peplum skirt, it can be  paired with an elegant kitten heel.

If you can’t decide to go between a dress or a top, we highly recommend a two piece like this elegant Collette Dinnigan set.
